Shepard Fairey speaks about what Obey does and the importance of getting people interested in fundraising causes/

OBEY Awareness began in 2007 as a way to educate and fundraise for causes and organizations that OBEY supports. It is a unique program in that it constantly evolves to support important emerging issues and organizations. Each season the OBEY Clothing line features dedicated product to raise funds for these causes. All profits generated from the sale of OBEY Awareness product are donated to the cause at hand. We encourage you to learn more and make a difference.

Shepard and his assistant Nicholas Bowers spent the day at Pace Prints 521 West 26th Street yesterday, installing two site-specific murals. These will be on view in the windows of the gallery and will be visible from the Highline and the street.

Shepard’s exhibition Harmony & Discord opens Saturday May 5, at noon.

Friday was a bit of a bummer to learn of the passing of Beastie Boy MCA…

OBEY AWARENESS: URBAN ROOTS
Obey just launched a new Awareness project with Urban Roots. Obey is raising funds in support of a call to action that creates farms within schools in urban areas. These farms are used not only to grow food but to educate as well. Since funding for this type of project was not previously available, Tree Media Foundation partnered with the Green Schoolhouse- a Los Angeles-based school garden consulting and design company. Together they created a pilot program to build school farms called “Field of Dreams”. The Field of Dreams farms function as an outdoor classroom where high school students learn the sustainable practices of planting, composting and water conservation to grow food with the highest organic and nutritional value. Each school will experience the growth cycle from seed, to harvest, to table. The goal of the project is for students to bring home the message that growing your own food is a simple and vital process.
